My first time using Rent the Runway

This season is chock-full with events. We have 3 weddings between now and the beginning of July, our 2nd anniversary (what!?) in May, a variety of local social events and the continued launch of our new business: Vacaybox - all happening at once! A slew of events along with our recent move...you could say this is our "busy" season. Here's the thing about weddings, anniversaries, events, etc. - they all require a new outfit. Let's be real, I can't afford that, and Chris would probably divorce me if I kept stopping into Anthro for a 'break' from my run... SO - all of that said, I decided I'd listen to all of my friends who've been raving about renting dresses, and give Rent the Runway a try!

I know a lot of people who use Rent the Runway and swear by it, and I know a lot of people who either haven't tried it or simply haven't heard of it. I wanted to provide a very brief review of my first experience to help those thinking of trying it out!

1. The Search

When you go to the RTR website, you can filter the search results to the occasion, your body type, and the color you're hoping to find. In my case, I literally looked through as many dresses as I could until I found 'the one'!

2. My Hearts

When you create an account or login through Facebook, you can "heart" dresses that you want to save for later. I put hearts next to several dresses that I liked and when I finished the initial search, I went back to my hearts to narrow down my top 2 choices.

3. Leveraging real reviews

My favorite part of the site were the reviews from real people who have previously rented the dresses I was interested in. They put in their measurements, how the dress fit, their feedback, etc. and it really helps in making a final decision! I was able to find people with similar body types to mine and if the dress didn't work for them, I just took it off "My Hearts" list.

4. My Top 3

These were my top 3. I eventually decided on the Rainbow Stripe Flag Maxi by Mara Hoffman because it fit my eclectic but casual style. Plus it was a fierce and unique dress, and I figured no one else would have it on at the event. (I was right!)

5. The Order Process

When you decide on a dress you just fill out the form to the right of the dress and click "Reserve Now". The dress then goes into your cart and you click through to process the order. Super simple and the dress arrives promptly after that! OH and P.S. you get discount your first time! Use my code when you sign up!

6. Dress arrival

The dress arrived in a nice garment bag. Oh! I forgot to mention above that they also provide you with a second dress in another size FOR FREE. Both dresses had clearly been recently dry cleaned and were wrapped in a plastic bag hanging within the cloth garment bag. Can I also just say that the garment bags were super nice and I kind of want one for traveling...?! You get to keep the hangers too and the return label is tucked on the inside.

6. The Fit

I was really happy with the fit overall. I'm 5'2" and this dress fit length-wise pretty perfectly! I was even able to wear flat sandals... gotta love that! The second, larger size ended up being unnecessary in my case, but I'm super glad they sent it - just in case!

The event was a great success and was beautifully done. My friend Allegra and the team at Crew+ planned and produced the event, and I think it turned out great!

To wrap up my Rent the Runway review, I just want to say that I'm already planning my next dress rental for our trip to Seattle at the end of May. It was a seamless process and I enjoyed every aspect of it. All of my friends that attended the event and rented dresses looked gorgeous and seemed to enjoy their experience as well. If you're looking for an outfit to wear for an event or even just because, check it out!

. . .

This morning I woke up, packed my dresses back in the garment bag and left it at the nearest UPS drop-off. I'm a fan of Rent the Runway for life. It could not have been easier. I felt so glam and spent under $100! Can't complain about that!
